Sony Press Conference – E3 2015

Sony has had some strong showings in the past few conferences, including the year the PS4 was announced. With still being on top, this could be the conference that solidifies Sony’s lead, especially with some missteps from the past year (The Order: 1866). With that, let’s see how it went for Sony.

The Return of the Fabled Legends

If there’s one thing that this conference will be remembered for, it’s the conference that finally gave gamers two games that’s been long asked for.

The beginning of the conference highlighted The Last Guardian, showing 6 minutes of beautifully rendered footage. The actual gameplay was kind of simple, but seems to hold the same aesthetic as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Later, after announced World of Final Fantasy, which is making Sony look like they are going troll their audience base as much as they can. Then, a teaser trailer shows up for the Final Fantasy VII Remake. And people lost it.

Hey, guess what? Trailers!

Buttload of trailers for Sony, including:

Hitman, the newest version of the Hitman franchise. You’re a hitman.

Street Fighter V announces two characters: Birdie and Cammy. Beta is announced for July.

Media Molecule showed off their newest game: Dreams, which is…honestly I have no idea what this is.

Firewatch is a game where you are a park ranger. Something happens. Looks interesting.

A new expansion was announced for Destiny called The Fallen King. It’s coming out in September.

Disney Infinity 3.0 will have an exclusive bundle for PS4 that includes both Star Wars play sets a month early. The sets will take place on both the prequel and original trilogies.

And what might be the strangest plea to get more money from people: Shenmue 3 is on Kickstarter and Yu Suzuki took time from the conference to get people to pledge to have the game made. The goal is $2M.

Overall, the game’s shown in trailers were kind of lackluster.

Play in Their World

No Man’s Sky had a fairly extensive play through, showing the entire scope of the game itself. Same promises as before, but shows space and land combat. Still no release date.

Horizon: Zero Dawn was revealed and it looks like an amazing mash up of Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus and it looks stunning. The gameplay looks a bit on the…trailer-y side, but it looked great nonetheless.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 shows both single and multiplayer. Guess what? It’s Call of Duty single player and multiplayer.

Finally, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End showed an extensive gameplay sequence that was tense, exciting, beautiful and full of the things that make the Uncharted games so beloved.

Two things that were shown minimally, or not at all, was Project Morpheus. It was shown briefly with some concepts for games. Nothing on release dates or prices.

The other thing was the Vita which had a whopping 1 game announced, which is also a PS4 game (World of Final Fantasy). It’s starting to look like Vita may be losing more support than we thought.

Otherwise, this was an okay conference that doesn’t really get more people on the brand as it does get people who love the system to look forward to more games.
